Q & A with Robert Lewis

Getting To Know The Scholarship Winners

When did you first hear about the William T. Molden Scholarship?

Toby Owen gave me a packet to fill out.

How did you feel when you found out you had been awarded the scholarship?

It felt good and I was excited. It also made me feel less stressed about all that I have to do.

Have you attended a Rangers Game with our group before?

Yes.

If so, how many have you attended?

I have gone to many since Mr. Chad first started taking us kids in 1995.

If so, what do you remember from the games?

I remember a lot about the games. They are a lot of fun every year. I remember always getting Cici’s pizza before the game, which is funny because I work for Cici’s now. I also remember that we always had peanuts and cracker jacks. Then we had a hot dog in the 2 nd inning and a ice cream sundae in the 5 th inning.

I also got a ball once that was hit during batting practice. Someone stole it from me but the cop on duty made the guy give it back to me. And I remember that at one of the first games we went to in 1996 or 1997, that Elias, the other scholarship winner, got hit in the stomach with a homerun hit ball. It knocked the wind out of him and some other kid not with ACH stole the ball, so Elias didn’t get to keep it.

My houseparents, Dustin and Carmen Synder, are very special to me and were my support during highschool. One of my favorite memories is when Carmen took us on vacation in Belemore, which is in West Texas, and we got to swim in the biggest pool.

Another great source of support for me was Toby Owen. He has helped me obtain scholarships and housing for college. One of my favorite memories of Toby was when he first became a houseparent and he caught me throwing toilet paper all over my room. Being his first week, I don’t think he knew quite what to do, so he just started throwing it with me. It is a great memory we share, and he has always been there for me.
